Apple Announces iPhone 4S. Available on Sprint!! No iPhone 5…yet.

Today Apple announced their latest iPhone, the 4S. Despite the buzz building and the rumors swirling around a 5th generation iPhone, Apple did not announce a redesigned handset. Instead they announced a remake of the current iPhone, the iPhone 4S. This phone gets a decent bump in specs, adding an 8mp camera, 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor and according to Apple, everything on the inside redesigned. It also includes a new graphics process that runs up to 7 times faster than the current one!

I'm sure many people will be disappointed by the conference today, especially those who were really anticipating a new iPhone handset. Not to mention, most of the conference seemed to be rehash of the WWDC conference that took place earlier in the year. The new iPhone 4S might be enough to satisfy some people, but I know a lot of people want a full-fledged iPhone 5.
One demo that really impressed me was the Siri demo. Siri is the name of iOS's personal assistant. Just talk to Siri. Ask a question and it finds the answer, tell it to do something and it does it, ask it to set a reminder and it's done! The scenario that really made me smile went a little something like this:
Say I get a text message. Using my hands-free headset because my iPhone is in my pocket, I tell Siri "read the new message".
Siri says, "From Brandy: are you available for lunch on Friday?"
I say, "Check my availability for lunch on Friday"
Siri checks and says, "you are open on Friday"
I respond: "make an appointment for 1PM on Friday"
Siri makes the appointment and says: "Would you like to invite Brandy?"
I say, "Yes."
Of course, this scenario could go a bunch of different ways, but if Siri works even closely to the demo, it will be outstanding! Siri also did things like tell the weather, check stock prices, research a question, find a good Chinese Food restaurant, and set geo-based reminders from reminding me to do something when I get to a certain location and reminding me to do something when I leave a certain location.

Perhaps the biggest news out of the event is the availability of an iPhone to Sprint. The Now Network is getting their first iPhone handset and pre-orders start on October 7th with the phone being available everywhere on October 14th.
